Asia Airfreight Terminal Joins IATA Environmental Assessment Programme at World Cargo Symposium 2024

Hong Kong, 13 March, 2024 - Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), a subsidiary of SATS Ltd, has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by officially becoming a member of the IATA Environmental Assessment Programme (IEnvA) at the World Cargo Symposium in Hong Kong. The move aligns with the group’s sustainability commitment, as the parent company has also enrolled in the program. Through participation in this certification program, AAT aims to enhance its sustainability performance across all aspects.

The IATA's IEnvA program sets a uniform benchmark for enhancing environmental stewardship within the aviation sector. It promotes ongoing progress in performance by integrating sustainable environmental management into daily operations and decision-making. AAT's participation in the ground service program ensures a structured approach to achieving environmental sustainability across operations, supported by comprehensive trainings and workshops based on the IEnvA Standards Manual.

"Sustainability lies at the core of AAT's values," affirmed Mike Chew, CEO of AAT. “I am pleased to witness this significant milestone as AAT joins this program, adopting world-class standards to elevate the company's global presence. Sustainability is an ongoing journey and essential for the long-term growth of our business and the collective success of the communities we feed and connect.

Said Frederic Leger, IATA SVP Commercial Products and Services said, “We look forward to supporting Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd as they start their journey towards achieving IEnvA Certification. Their commitment to improving sustainability across their operations through IEnvA sets a positive example for the industry and demonstrates their strong commitment to sustainability in the cargo space.”

AAT's commitment to sustainability is evident in its track record of achieving a remarkable 50% reduction in carbon footprint since 2008. This has been accomplished through a range of green initiatives, such as transitioning to electric working vehicles, installing charging stations, implementing energy-efficient measures like LED lighting, and utilizing more sustainable refrigerants and insulation in building of its latest cold chain handling facility AAT COOLPORT. The imminent introduction of Autonomous Electric Transport (AET) vehicles represents yet another eco-friendly initiative that substantially reduces carbon emissions, while automating our processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. As we move forward, AAT's commitment to sustainability remains unwavering.

During the World Cargo Symposium 2024, Mike Chew, CEO of AAT, and the representative from IATA, Frederic Legar, SVP Commercial Products and Services, and Brendan Sullivan, Global Head of Cargo officially sealed the joint commitment to sustainability. This significant step highlights AAT's dedication to upholding international environmental standards and making a positive impact on the environment.
