Asia Airfreight Terminal Wins “Supply Chain Innovator of the Year - Air Cargo Automation” Award
Hong Kong, 21 October 2024 - Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), a subsidiary of SATS Ltd, has been honored with the prestigious "Supply Chain Innovator of the Year - Air Cargo Automation" award at the Supply Chain Asia Award 2024, recognizing AAT’s pioneering role in air cargo automation following the successful launch of Autonomous Electric Tractors (AET) at terminal operations and its commitment to continuously developing innovative solutions to enhance customer experience.
Mr. Mike Chew, CEO of AAT, stated, "We believe that embracing advanced technology propels us forward, ensuring that our operations are not only highly efficient but also environmentally friendly. With every stride, we are committed to shaping a smarter, greener future for air cargo logistics. This award is a testament to our vision for a more sustainable future in the logistics industry."
Since the launch earlier this year, the AETs have been smoothly integrated into the terminals, efficiently managing the towing of cargo and ULDs across multiple routes and levels. The project has evolved to meet operational demands, with ongoing enhancements such as automatic dolly detachment and the addition of route signage for enhanced safety. AAT plans to expand its fleet progressively in the coming years while exploring additional automation features to meet various operational needs.
AETs represent a visionary innovation in air cargo logistics, aimed at boosting operational efficiency and sustainability. Designed to operate seamlessly in both autonomous and manual modes, AETs ensure continuity during peak seasons and adverse weather conditions. Their sustainable design, substantially reduces carbon emissions by up to 35% compared to conventional diesel tractors. Additionally, AETs are outfitted with advanced safety features such as high-definition cameras, lidar sensors, an advanced braking system, and the use of innovative 3D mapping and dGPS technology, ensuring safe and precise navigation within complex warehouse settings.
